How to change “preferred network type” on moto-g

Telstra shut down 2G some time ago, and my SIM was working fine.

Then all of a sudden it stopped working. I see “preferred network type” as 2G under cellular network settings for the Telstra SIM.

It is grayed out and won’t let me change it.

If you have setup sim 1 as your mobile data sim then you can not choose the preferred network on the second sim, only on the sim you have set as the mobile data sim.
You can only have one sim set to mobile data the other sim will automatically default to 2G [Source]

But that’s not true. My first SIM is Telstra, and I should be able to select it.

1.Open the Dialer and Dial *#*#4636#*#*

2.Tap On “Phone Information”.

3.Scroll down you can see “set preferred network type”

4.Change it to  “WCDMA preferred”.

5.Do not touch any other settings and come back to home screen.

Tried this but it won’t me select WCDMA preferred. Always sticks to GSM only

Same problem with me too. Any solution? Unable to change network type even using *#*#4636#*#*, it sticks to GSM only .
